Three Months Recovered
steadily improving. My whole life, I have struggled to put on weight
(muscle) and such is a good indication of my overall health and
fitness. Before the Jan 18 crash, I weighted about 70kg. Shortly
after the crash, hospitalisation and weeks of bed rest I was down to
60kg. As a point of reference, the last time I weighed 60kg was in 2002.
In the last two months, I've been slowly getting back on my feet. I'm
currently running about 60km per week, which is rather amazing in my
book. Additionally, I'm riding about 100km and gyming three times per
week. I am hoping to increase my riding to 400km/wk within the next
month, since I have been supplied with a beautiful new Colnago to
replace my Lapierre, which was fractured (like me) in four places. At
the moment, I'm fluctuating between 65-66kg, which is a significant
improvement over the sickly 60kg I was post-accident.
I've significantly changed my weight training routine post-accident
also. Both shoulders (I broke the left in Jan, and the right in
October) can't take much weight, thus I am engaging a more focused,
low impact routine. I feel slightly diminutive curling 20kg at the
Beaurepaire, but it is in the interest of my recovery.
A more tightly focused and slightly slower routine is my current
athletic hallmark. I see this impacting other areas of my life... a
more calm, determined approach to everyday things is encroaching my
lifestyle. Being hit by a car has its negatives, but I can see the
longer term positive consequences.
